Shoshanna Sumka Joins Somos as Senior Advisor, School Partnerships & Global Learning

We’re excited to welcome Shoshanna Sumka to the Somos Impact Travel team.

Shoshanna is joining us for a focused two-month engagement as Senior Advisor, School Partnerships & Global Learning. She’ll be working with us on schoolpartnership development, our educational framework, and helping connect the right institutions with the programs we’ve built on the ground in Guatemala, Belize, Peru, and across Central America.

Shoshanna brings credentials that are rare in this field. She most recently served as Executive Director of the Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN), where she supported over 150 schools and 2,000 educators in global learning, outdoor education, community engagement, and experiential pedagogy. She’s also a co-author of the leading book on alternative breaks and has spent two decades designing ethical, community-grounded global learning programs at institutions including American University and Sidwell Friends School.

What drew us to Shoshanna, and her to us, is a shared belief about how global learning works best. Students arrive as learners rather than helpers. The communities Somos partners with are experts, teachers, and leaders who have built meaningful programs worth understanding. That framing is at the core of everything Somos does, and it’s a principle Shoshanna has championed throughout her career.

If you’re a global education director, trip coordinator, or educator thinking about partnership-based learning programs in Latin America, Shoshanna is a great person to start that conversation with. Reach her at shoshanna@somos.travel or contact us directly at shad@somos.travel.

We’re glad she’s here.
